Lymphatic Skin Care Tips

One of our most requested facials at Doceō Skincare & Lymphatic is the Lymphatic Facial. While it is mostly sought out to see results for acne, swelling, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, etc., there is actually more to it than what one may think. Having a better understanding of what is happening within the skin with a lymphatic facial, we may find ourselves amazed at how it helps prevent anti-aging of the skin!

Quick review: Your lymphatic system runs throughout the entire body within a network of lymphatic channels. These channels, or vessels, move lymph (toxins and debris) picked up in the cutaneous level of the skin when your lymph nodes pump (i.e. tiny contractions). These tiny contractions pull the lymph to the corresponding lymph nodes to be cleaned, then dumped into the heart to be eliminated through our urinary system.

Let’s also consider the 2 major contributors to aging skin: UV damage & Stress. The question is how? What are the effects of these on a sub-dermal level? We all understand they cause pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, but what is taking place beneath the skin’s surface that we cannot see? This is where the lymphatic system comes in and how its role is greatly diminished due to the effects of UV damage, stress and one more… toxic products (i.e. ingredients in products which counter what skincare is supposed to be doing). I am adding the last since what we put on our skin is directly absorbed by the lymphatic system. Toxic ingredients put stress on the lymphatic system, giving if more work to do.

So here we go… the skin is FULL of lymphatic vessels! UV rays, stress (internal factors and external factors) and toxic products hinder the crucial lymphatic function, leading to build up of toxins with in the skin/body. Thus, we lose the ability for the lymphatic system to remove waste naturally, supporting the aging process. The strain on the lymphatic system caused by UV rays, stress and toxic products cause:

  • accumulation of waste in the dermis
  • elastin and collagen fiber damage
  • lessening of lymphatic vessels
  • inflammation/leaky lymphatic vessels

As a result, we have what is referred to as lymphatic aging which is the reduced pumping function of the lymphatic vessels. As these factors persist, they cause lymphatic vessels to age and also decrease in number, which will have a direct effect on the skin’s appearance.

Lymphatic Facials help to keep the lymphatic system functioning properly so it can continue to remove impurities beneath the surface of the skin and aid in healing the skin.

Lymphatic Facials have three roles:

  1. purify the skin – cleanse toxins, metabolic waste and excess fluid
  2. enhance/boost lymphatic function – skin health with microcirculation, cell turnover, and hydration & nutrient intake for healthier complexion
  3. protecting the condition of the skin and its lymphatic vessels – reducing inflammation and improving lymphatic drainage which reduces the breakdown of collagen and elastin, helping to slow down the aging process of the skin.

Lymphatic work is not only clinical in helping the body maintain homeostasis and promote healing, but it is also extremely relaxing and lovely. You are aiding one of the body’s most fascinating systems while enjoying the benefits of the Vodder lymphatic drainage technique for the face. The benefits are endless with helping the body as it ages.

The health of the skin is one which improves quality of life. Skin is the largest organ of the body and is pervious. Treat it well and often. Preventions and treatment are important.

Here are some Lymphatic Skin Care tips to boot!

In closing, I want to impress for you to LISTEN to your body and observe your skin. Your body will tell you what it is wanting and needing. What works for someone else may not work for your skin. Look at how your body responds to both internal and external factors. Take note and listen to what your body is saying and give it what it needs. Love your body… you only get one.
